The task was to to a complete redesign the main face of the row house. The investor wanted to move the entry in to the house. This meant we demolished the existing outside stairs, relocated the entry and built new stairs with the new canopy. This way we got space for an outside parking space. Because we altered the main construction of the existing building we needed to have a building permit. Although the plan itself was more or less made on a few pieces of paper that was only a fraction of the documents we had to submit.
As a further demand from the regulatory office we had to submit a sunlight impact assessment study. It was obvious the request was completely irrelevant being the entry was on the north façade.
But his was really an opportunity to do something fun and it turned out rather great. The study was made using the Autodesk Ecotect and the results were great yet predictable.
