FOUR YEARS OF GIS LECTURES AT UNIVERSITY OF LJUBLJANA
EXHIBITION: FOUR YEARS OF GIS LECTURES AT UNIVERSITY OF LJUBLJANA FACULTY OF ARCHITECTURE
Location: Ljubljana, Slovenia
Year: 2007 - 2010
+ GIS COURSE
> PRINT DESIGN
During the work on European ALPTER project I came into contact with practices of geomatics. At the Faculty of Architecture we recognised the great unused potential of the GIS tools for the architect. We started to transfer the knowledge I gained during the project using the GIS tools to the students at the Faculty of Architecture at the practical part of the course Development of Urbanism in Slovenia (Prof. Fedja Košir) and Action Planning (prof. Ažman Momirski).
From 2006 to 2010 I was a special technical assistant for the practical GIS software application on the Faculty of Architecture.
Together with prof. Lucija Ažman Momirski I developed and lectured the course of one semester for the next four years. The course consisted of a group exercise. There were 5-6 students in a group. We chose an area of a settlement. The area of the settlement was divided in equal parts. They had to make a 3D model from contours and make a map of terrain heights, slope and insolation.
Then they needed to compare land-use maps from today to those of 200 years ago. They needed to georefernce the scans of Franciscan cadastre and vectorise the maps. Then they made a comparison analysis with some conclusions and make a presentation report and posters as a group.
At the end of the course the students got a good grasp of basics of GIS and ArcGIS Desktop.
